    Named the Best Prehospital Tourniquet in the February 2008 Supplement to the Journal of Trauma The patented C-A-T® Tourniquet is a true one-handed tourniquet that has been proven 100% effective by the U.S. Army Institute of Surgical Research. The CAT has been proven to completely block blood flow to an extremity in traumatic wounds with significant bleeding. The Gen 7 CAT utilizes a durable winch system with a patented, free-moving internal band that provides true circumferential pressure to the extremity. Once properly tightened, bleeding stops and the winch is locked in place. A hook and loop winch restraint strap is then applied, securing the winch to maintain pressure during evacuation of the victim. The patented Combat Application Tourniquet® (C-A-T®), featuring the exclusive red tip design and the mechanical advantage of a band within a band, has been the official tourniquet of the U.S. Army since 2005. CAT innovations are protected by U.S. Patent Nos. 7,842,067 and 7,892,253.
